Coimbatore: More than 30 women from Ukkadam and Karumbukadai areas in the city gathered at the district collectorate here on Saturday to apply for the ₹1,000 monthly financial assistance scheme after a fake message that a special camp was being organized for the same at the collectorate was widely circulated on WhatsApp.
A special camp will be held at the collectorate on August 17, 19 and 20 to submit application forms for the ₹1,000 monthly dole for women.
All applicants will receive the benefit immediately,” the WhatsApp message read.
Believing this information to be true, a group of women from Ukkadam and Karumbukadai areas gathered at the collectorate on the day and informed officials that they had come to apply for the monthly dole scheme. They also showed the WhatsApp message to the officials, who clarified that no such special camp had been announced and that the message was fake. Disappointed, the women dispersed from the collectorate.
Similarly, in Tirupur, women from Kangeyam, Perumanallur, Mudalipalayam, Palladam and Dharapuram areas visited the collectorate on Saturday to apply for the ₹1,000 monthly financial assistance scheme. Officials there also informed them that no special camp had been announced for the scheme enrollment.
