COIMBATORE: City police commissioner V Balakrishnan appreciated a woman who handed over to cops a bundle of cash containing Rs 50,000 which she found lying on a road on Friday night.
C S Nirmala, 41, of Balaji Nagar at Siddhapudur found the bundle of cash on the Dr Balasundaram Road when she was returning home after an evening walk with her mother Saratha, 65.
“We were walking back from Anna Statue Junction around 8pm when we saw a bundle of cash lying on the road. I took the bundle and handed it over to Race Course police inspector Arjun Kumar on Saturday morning,” said Nirmala, a homemaker.
The city police commissioner handed over an appreciation certificate to her at his chamber on Monday morning.
“We collected CCTV footage from the locality on Dr Balasundaram Road and found a man searching for something on the road. We collected his details and came to know that he was a contractor for the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation. The man said he had withdrawn Rs 7.5 lakh from a bank and lost one cash bundle. We asked him to produce valid documents,” said inspector Arjun Kumar.
