All four are students of the govt higher secondary school in Gandhi Market.
Police said the altercation began on August 8 afternoon when the 15-year-old boy’s friend and one of the accused got into a quarrel after one of them uttered an offensive word.
The 15-year-old intervened and managed to reconcile the two parties. However, his intervention infuriated the four accused. On Thursday night, as he was standing near a salon on Akbar Street in Thennur, the four boys confronted him, setting off an argument. As the situation escalated, the accused assaulted the 15-year-old, causing injuries to his head. His parents admitted him to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy.
As doctors advised that the boy has to undergo surgery, police obtained a complaint from him. Based on it, a case was registered and three of the accused were apprehended. They were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) which ordered their placement in the govt observation home in Trichy.
