Siddaramaiah’s supporters take to streets in Mysuru
Mysuru: Supporters of chief minister Siddaramaiah held a massive rally in his home town of Mysuru on Monday, seeking the Union govt to recall Karnataka governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, accusing him of illegality.
The march was led by Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa, a close associate of Siddaramaiah for over four decades. The workers held a dharna at the historic Gandhi Square near the Mysuru Palace and marched to the DC office in Siddhartha Nagar, approximately 3 km away, leading to a traffic block in the city.

Mysuru city police had a tough time managing the vehicular flow. Security was tight at the Gandhi Square and along the arterial roads when the Congress workers marched to the DC office. DCPs M Muthuraj and S Janhavi supervised the security arrangements.
Congress workers from all the eleven assembly segments in the city, mainly from the Varuna segment, which is represented by Siddaramaiah, attended the protest march, which took nearly 90 minutes to reach the DC’s office. They vented their ire against Union minister HD Kumaraswamy by shouting slogans against him.
Mahadevappa, KPCC working president Tanveer Sait, CM’s son & MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, MLAs K Harishgowda, D Ravishankar, Anil Chikkamadu, Darshan Dhruvanarayana, MLC D Thimmaiah, and former minister Umashree were among the senior leaders who attended the dharna. Later, they joined the protest march to the DC’s office.
Addressing the agitators, Mahadevappa accused BJP and JD(S) of misusing the governor’s office to bring down the Siddaramaiah govt and to come to power. “There is a method in their political machinations. They use central agencies or constitutional bodies to target the opposition leaders and bring down the democratically-elected govts,” he charged.
Sait said that the Muda board members decided to allot alternative sites to Parvathi, wife of Siddaramaiah, as per the law. “There was no illegality in it. During 2016, the Siddaramaiah govt had not okayed the 50:50 scheme. It was approved in 2019 by the BJP govt. Later, the sites were allotted to Parvathi,” Sait, who was a Muda member when the sites were allotted, explained.
Meanwhile, the villagers and traders held a protest at the Chamundi Hills against the governor’s decision. Hundreds of agitators held a protest, shouting slogans against the governor and the central govt.
