The couple had a girl child of seven months then.
Anand, at the time of marriage, had received 26gms of gold in dowry, the public prosecutor said, adding that later he started demanding money from his in-laws and was harassing his wife mentally and physically.
He (Anand) quarrelled with Vidyashree on the day over the issue and then strangled her by the neck with his bare hands, killing her on the spot, the public prosecutor stated.
Later, to cover up the crime, Anand, with the help of his father Shyam Kamble, hanged her using a sari from the ceiling of a room at a rented house where they lived in Kollegala, he said.
Vidyashree’s father, Chidananda Kamble, had suspected foul play and accused the husband and in-laws of murdering his daughter. Kollegala police investigated and had filed a chargesheet, he said.
