Guwahati: Assam govt aims to bring 3,000 houses under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar’ scheme within two years to facilitate faster adoption of solar energy in the state.
The scheme provides up to 70% subsidy on the cost of grid-connected solar rooftops to consumers.
This decision was taken at a meeting organised by Onergy Solar on Friday. Members of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) and several bank representatives were a part of the meeting.
The meeting focused on the subsidies offered by the central and state govts.
APDCL AGM Binoyjyoti Nath said, “We are witnessing tremendous customer interest in rooftop solar systems. The number of applications has gone above 2,00,000, driven largely by the substantial govt subsidies that make solar adoption highly affordable for households.”
The conference also focused on providing financial options to the citizens who are opting to buy solar panels with bank loans.
