Ghaziabad YouTuber ‘Kuwari Begam’ who made videos on child sexual abuse arrested

GHAZIABAD: A 25-year-old YouTuber was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sharing pornographic content and promoting ways to sexually abuse infants on her YouTube channel.
The accused was identified as Shikha Matrey, a resident of Ghaziabad. Matrey used to run a gaming channel ‘Kuwari Begam’ on YouTube with 2,050 subscribers where she had uploaded 115 videos.
Deepika Narayan Bharadwaj, founder of Ekam Nyaay Foundation and an independent journalist, had filed a complaint in the matter.
She had first flagged the contents of the YouTube channel on X when she found that there were pornographic videos as well as videos promoting child abuse on the channel. She had posted about the channel on social media platform X, asking that the videos be taken down and urging police to take action against Metray.
An FIR was lodged against Matrey on Monday at the Kaushambi police station and the YouTuber was arrested on Thursday.
ACP (crime) Ritesh Tripathi said that, Matrey confessed to the crimes during interrogation. She told cops that she began posting those videos after someone asked her about masturbation on her YouTube channel, the ACP said.
A few other YouTubers had also started a “jail bhejo” campaign against the accused after the channel’s contents were brought to light.
