COIMBATORE: Central all women police in Coimbatore arrested a 59-year-old man on Monday for raping a three-year-old girl.
The arrested man has been identified as P Sundaram of Perumal Kovil Street at Ukkadam. He engaged in ironing clothes.
Police said his daughter got married and settled at New Siddhapudur. His younger sister was also residing in the same area.
So, Sundaram often visited New Siddhapudur to meet his daughter and his younger sister.
He befriended a man who was residing in the area with his wife and three-year-old daughter.
On Sunday evening, he played with the minor girl. Later, he took her into an autorickshaw and raped her. Some people, who heard the cries of the girl, rushed to the autorickshaw.
They beat the man and handed him over to the Central all women police around 7.15pm on Sunday.
Police registered a case against Sundaram under sections 5 (m) read with 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and arrested him on Monday morning. He was produced before a special court for the
POCSO Act cases and remanded in judicial custody. He was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
