16-yr-old to represent India at IBSF World
Udhagamandalam: A 16-year-old boy from Coonoor has been selected to represent India at the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Championship-2024 for a second year in a row. He will feature in the under 17 and under 21 Boys Snooker Championship, which will be held in Bengaluru from August 24.
J Sham Alwin was selected by the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) as per merit.

Coached by Suriyanarayanan, a world certified snooker coach, Alwin has been playing snooker since he was six years old. He is a Class XI student at Stane’s Higher Secondary School in Coonoor.
Born to Joseph Selva Kumar and Catherine Anita, Alwin intends to pursue the game seriously. He told TOI, “My father was my inspiration as he is also a snooker coach. My school and teachers are also very encouraging.” Hosted by the BSFI, this year’s championship will feature over 50 participants from across 11 countries.

15-year-old boy found dead in Kalu river after drowning
A 15-year-old boy, Tushar Choraghe, was found drowned in the Kalu River in Titwala after going missing the previous day. Tushar had gone to the river to swim with younger friends who got scared and did not inform the authorities after he drowned. His parents had filed a missing complaint before his body was discovered.
