MC to deploy mimickers to tackle monkeys around HC
Chandigarh: Following the directions of Punjab and Haryana high court, the Chandigarh municipal corporation is ready to deploy manpower (mimickers) to deal with the monkey menace around the court premises. The MC has also come up with a detailed action plan.
Since the high court is located very close to the forest area of the city, the problem of monkeys has become a permanent headache.

Sources said at times, advocates, litigants, common public, high court staff find it difficult to save themselves from monkeys.
The joint municipal commissioner has now written a letter to nodal officer and sanitary inspectors, who deal with the issue of monkeys. The letter read as, “With the high court directing MC to take immediate and effective steps to address the menace of monkeys within the court premises, you all are directed to deploy manpower (engaged for monkey menace) in the HC premises at regular intervals. It is further directed to prepare and submit a comprehensive action plan to address the issue and treat this letter as most urgent.”
Sources said the MC has got not much options, but to hire mimickers to control the problem of monkeys. And it is getting quite difficult to control and tackle the problem effectively. “We can’t do much, except for hiring people (mimickers) who mimic as langoors. Therefore, we have hired such people for this work,” an official of the MC said.
Not only around the Punjab and Haryana high court, the problem of the monkeys is quite serious in many sectors in the city. Councillors too had raised the issue during general house meeting in the past.
