Redesigned stormwater drainage for Sanand GIDC estate soon
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has floated a tender for a topographical survey and hydraulic design for stormwater drains at its Sanand industrial estate. The Sanand GIDC estate is being developed as a model estate and is emerging as a hub of the semiconductor industry in India. The tender aims to ensure that large investments continue to flow in with quality infrastructure available.

Sources in the corporation said the Sanand estate got waterlogged during the recent spell of heavy rain, causing GIDC officials to decide to resolve the issue quickly. The tender for a holistic topographical survey and hydraulic design for stormwater drains was published by GIDC recently.
"The scope of work includes the methodology for assessing stormwater flooding in the estate by flows from upstream and providing suitable disposal measures by identifying the most suitable disposal points for them. The deadline for online bidding is Sep 19. The study must be completed in two months' time and further execution of work for the permanent stormwater drain is planned accordingly," an official said.
GIDC established its Sanand industrial estate on 2,000 hectares in 2011-12. It was developed to promote industrial development and to serve as a hub for various industries, including manufacturing, automotive and technology. Initially, infrastructure such as roads, water supply network and open earthen stormwater drains, were developed.
The estate has seen significant development in recent years, thus it has become essential to upgrade the open earthen drain to a permanent drain to improve efficiency and reduce flooding. The topography of the Sanand industrial estate is such that runoff stormwater from upstream flows through it. This creates challenges for effective drainage management.
