Agra: A court in Aligarh sentenced a woman and her lover to life imprisonment for killing her husband. The court found them guilty of conspiring to kill Chetram Singh and cover up the crime by narrating a false story.
ADGC advocate Mepe Singh said on Saturday, "The case was heard in the court-2 of additional sessions judge Parul Atri. Based on the evidence and witness statements, the court found both the accused guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
They were also fined Rs 20,000 each. After the judgment, they were taken into police custody and sent to jail."
On the night of Sept 20, 2020, Chetram, 30, a mason by profession, caught his wife Anita Devi (25) and Hardayal Singh (28) -- from the same village -- in a compromising position. Enraged, Chetram confronted the two, leading to a heated argument. In a fit of rage and fear of being further exposed, Anita and Hardayal strangled Chetram with a wire. They also hit him on his chest with a stone.
After killing him, they made up a story claiming that Chetram had died from an electric shock. However, when Chetram's brother, Netram Singh, saw the body on Sept 22, he noticed several injury marks and immediately reported the matter to police. A case under IPC section 302 (
murder) was registered at Pisawa police station in Aligarh district and both were arrested. During the interrogation, Anita and Hardayal confessed to their crime.
