Visakhapatnam: The India Meteorological Department (
IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Rayalaseema from August 14 to 17.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and strong surface winds with speed ranging from 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at isolated places in coastal AP, Yanam and Rayalaseema during the next four days.
Tanakal (Sri Sathyasai district), Punganur (Chittoor), Amadagur (Sri Sathyasai district) received highest rainfall of nine centimetre each between Monday (8.30 am) and Tuesday (8.30 am), followed by eight centimetre each at Kadiri and Madanapalle, seven centimetre rainfall in Hindupur.
The remaining parts of Rayalaseema region received rainfall between one and six centimetre.
In CAP and Yanam sub-division, Podili in Prakasam district received five centimetre rainfall, followed by five centimetre each in Konakanamitla (Prakasam) and Narsipatnam (Anakapalle) during the same period.
Dr S Karuna Sagar, scientist at IMD-Amaravati, said a trough runs from Rayalaseema to Comorin area at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
Under the influence of this system, parts of Rayalaseema region are likely to receive heavy rainfall till August 17. The southwest monsoon is normal over coastal AP, Yanam and Rayalaseema, he added. Meanwhile, fishermen in coastal

AP has recorded 27 percent excess rainfall between June 1 and August 13, compared to the normal. According to IMD-Amaravati, against the normal rainfall of 285 mm, the state received 361.2 mm rainfall till August 13.
“The recent rains have sped-up the sowing of kharif crops in coastal AP and Rayalaseema region. The sowing of kharif crops will cover more areas in the coming days,” said an officer with the agriculture department.
