The outbreak has caused significant concern when seven out of the 16 died. It subsequently transpired that the deceased included four children who were infected by the virus and three who tested negative. The mortality rate among the confirmed cases is notably higher.
In response to the outbreak, a team from the National Institute of Virology had previously visited the district. This week, the NCDC team focused on the areas where cases were reported. They conducted detailed surveys of the affected households, gaining insights into the lifestyles of the residents. The team also interacted with district health department officials to gather detailed information on each case.
An official said that the experts collected blood samples from animals in the affected areas and spoke with the families of the children who tested positive. This was to determine if any family members had fever or related symptoms before the children fell ill. The NCDC team left Godhra on Thursday.
