Srinagar: National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah will contest the Lok Sabha election from Baramulla, while Shia clergyman Aga Ruhullah Mehdi will be the National Conference candidate from Srinagar constituency, the party announced Friday.
NC has already fielded Gujjar leader Main Altaf from Anantnag-Rajouri against former chief minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.
Ghulam Nabi Azad’s party, Democratic Progressive Azad Party, had also announced his candidature from Anantnag, but sources claimed the former Congress leader had decided to withdraw from the race.
Omar will be locked in a contest with Peoples Conference president Sajjad Gani Lone and PDP’s Fayaz Mir, while Mehdi, a three-time legislator and minister in the past, will face PDP’s youth wing president Wahid Para and J&K Apni Party candidate Ashraf Mir.
