SALEM: A professor with a polytechnic college in Salem has been conferred with the National Teachers Award, 2024, recently. Earlier, 16 professors attached to various polytechnic and engineering colleges in India were shortlisted for the award.
President
Droupadi Murmu conferred the award on A Gandhimathi, head, English department, Thiagarajar Polytechnic College, at a function conducted in New Delhi on September 5.
"Being counted among the 16 best teachers in the engineering and polytechnic stream in the country and being honoured by the President who herself excelled as a schoolteacher in her distinguished career are the greatest recognitions I could ever ask for," said Gandhimathi.
National awards like these would remind the teaching community of the higher purpose of preparing young talents, she said.
The event was attended by Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, minister of state for education Sukanta Majumdar and minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhury.
