Namakkal/Erode: Fifteen people were arrested for selling intoxicating drugs to youths at Pallipalayam, Kumarapalayam, and Veppadai in the Namakkal district late on Tuesday night.
A total of 9,200 drug tablets were seized from them, police said adding all the arrested were from Pallipalayam and surrounding areas.
West zone IG Bhavaneeswari received a tip-off that a gang was selling intoxicating drugs to youths.
She alerted the Namakkal district SP S Rajesh Kannan, who formed a special team to probe the case.
“The team found that Gautham, 32, of Pallipalayam was the leader of the gang and arrested him on March 2,” the SP said. He said police seized 4,200 drug tablets from his residence.
During interrogation, Gautham told the police team that he bought the drugs from P Bharath Kumar, 32, and S Dinesh Kumar, 32, of Erode. Both were arrested by the Chithode police in Erode on March 2 and booked under the Goondas Act on Tuesday night.
The duo purchased the drugs from a dealer in Gujarat for 500 for 10 tablets and sold them for 5,000, the SP said adding Gautham roped in the 12 other accused to sell the drugs. Police said that 5,000 tablets of drugs were seized from the 12 accused.
