Farmer killed in dispute over farm boundary, 2 held
Rajkot: A 46-year-old farmer, Pratap Kamliya, was brutally attacked and killed, allegedly by his neighbor following a dispute over a farm boundary in Rani village of Jesar taluka in Bhavnagar district on Sunday.
The victim suffered fatal injuries to his head and other parts of his body, inflicted by an axe and various weapons. Raghu Kamliya, the deceased’s 21-year-old nephew, lodged a police complaint at the Jesar police station against four persons including Mamia Gid, Ashwin Gid, Raghu Gid, and Devshi Gid, for murder and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The police have taken two of the accused brothers, Ashwin and Raghu, into custody. The root cause of the conflict was a disagreement over a water channel in Kamliya’s agricultural land.
According to the police complaint filed by Raghu, the incident occurred while they were constructing drainage channels in their farmland using a JCB machine. Mamia Gid, who owns the neighbouring field, objected to the construction of the drainage channel and demanded that the JCB work be stopped immediately.
When Raghu asked him to wait for a while, Mamia struck him on the left leg with an axe. Raghu called his uncle Pratap to the scene. Mamia’s sons and brothers also arrived, armed with weapons and pipes. They launched a vicious attack on Pratap, targeting his head and legs. Pratap was rushed to BIMS Hospital in Bhavnagar for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. It was later discovered that the deceased was unmarried.
According to sources, the Kamliya family’s drainage work had raised apprehensions for the Gid family, who were concerned about potential waterlogging in their field.
