Union govt fetes state’s silk farmers
Raipur: The central silk board, under Central govt's ministry of textiles, honoured Chhattisgarh's silk farmers for their contribution to the silk industry and the economy of the nation.
Among the awardees were Ganesh Ram Sidar from Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district's Bar village, recognised as an outstanding Tussar silk producer, and Santosh Dewangan from Seoni village in Janjgir-Champa district, honoured for his exceptional work as a Tussar thread maker.

The board celebrated its platinum jubilee on Sept 20.
The event recognised the efforts of silk producers from various states across India, who were invited to participate and showcase their contributions to the silk industry.
Union textile minister Giriraj Singh, who was the chief guest, presented the awards to the silk farmers. The event was inaugurated by Union minister of heavy industries and public enterprises H.D. Kumaraswamy. Union minister of state for external affairs and steel P Margarett and Union minister of state for water resources and railways V Somanna were also present.
The ceremony underscored the significant role of silk production in rural economies, highlighting economic development and better livelihood due to various initiatives taken under the silk sector.
