Sasaram: Two army aspirants died on the spot while the third was seriously injured when they were run over by a speeding truck on Sasaram-Ara state highway, near Soni village of Rohtas district, on Tuesday morning.
All the three were jogging on the side of the road as a part of their daily routine to prepare for physical test of the
Indian Army.
The two deceased have been identified as Satyendra Singh (24) of Pakadi village under Rajpur police station and Deepak Kumar (22) of Soni village under Sanjhauli police station.
Prince Kumar of Soni village has been admitted to a private nursing home at Bikarmganj, where his condition is serious.After the incident, the driver of the truck fled with the vehicle.
Protesting the accident, the local villagers blocked the highway for two hours, demanding compensation to the next of kin of deceased. The blockade was lifted after senior police and district administration officials assured them that adequate compensation would be paid to the bereaved families.
SDPO Bikramganj, Sanjay Kumar, said the incident took place when the three army aspirants, as a part of their daily exercise, were jogging on the highway. They had hardly run 500 meters, when a truck coming from opposite direction, hit them from behind and ran over them.
