Patna: Three persons, including two teenaged cousins, died and one was injured in separate
road accidents in Patna district on Tuesday.
An elderly woman died, while her son was severely injured after a speeding truck hit their two-wheeler on state highway-2 (Raghopur-Mahabalipur) in Bihta police station area of Patna district. After the incident, the local residents and family members disrupted traffic for two hours by blocking the road with the body, demanding compensation.
Bihta police station in-charge Raj Kumar Pandey said that they have seized the truck and taken the driver into custody.
“Sonamti Devi (62) and her son Bhim Singh (39) were returning home to Danapur’s Usri Sikarpur village from from Bikram when the speeding truck, coming from Paliganj, hit their two-wheeler from behind, and they came under the wheels of the heavy vehicle. The woman died on the spot, while her son was admitted to a private hospital in Bihta,” Pandey said, adding further action is being taken in the matter.
Police removed the blockade after pacifying the protesters by assuring the family of appropriate compensation and action as per the laws. The police then took the body in their possession and sent it to Danapur subdivisional hospital for postmortem.
In a separate incident, Vikas Kumar (18) and Sachin Kumar (18), both residents of Nagar Nausa in Nalanda district, died when their motorcycle was hit by a tractor-trolley in the limits of Gaurichak police station in Patna district around 5pm. After the accident, the driver fled from the spot with his vehicle.
