Monsoon activity is expected to pick up in southern
Bihar from September 11 and it would cover most of the region over the next two days, according to the Patna Meteorological Centre.
“Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Nawada and Jehanabad in the south-central region; Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Bhabhua, Aurangabad and Arwal in the southwest; and Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Khagaria and Jamui in the southeast are likely to receive rainfall on September 11,” said the weather bulletin.
It added that the northwest districts of West and East Champaran, Siwan, Saran and Gopalganj may experience heavy rainfall.
Despite the expected rainfall, Bihar remains below normal precipitation levels. The state has received 614mm of rain against a normal of 828mm, reflecting a 26% deficit as of Saturday. The Patna Meteorological Centre said 15 districts, including Patna, Purnia, Saharsa and Samastipur have seen a rainfall shortfall ranging between 34% and 51%.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for lightning and thunderstorms, particularly for the northwest, southwest and northeast parts of the state on Monday. The alert extends to all of north Bihar and southeastern districts the following day.
