Patna: Passengers of the New Delhi-Islampur Magadh Express (20802) had a close shave on Sunday when two coaches suddenly detached, splitting the train into two. The mishap occurred between Tunninganj and Raghunathpur stations in Buxar district on the DDU-Patna mainline under the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR). Fortunately, no one was injured, Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary said.
Choudhary said the incident occurred around 11.07am as the train was passing through Tunninganj railway station.
“The S-6 and S-7 coaches, the 13th from the locomotive, disconnected midway. The parted coaches were carefully reattached and brought to Raghunathpur,” Choudhary added.
ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra said an accident relief train was dispatched immediately from Danapur with a rescue team.
“The faulty S-6 coach was detached and repaired while passengers were moved to other coaches,” Chandra said. The train resumed its journey around 2.25pm after a three-hour delay, he added. The incident, caused by a coupling system fault between the S-6 and S-7 coaches, left passengers in shock with many stepping off the train and gathering on the tracks. Sources said the railways has ordered a departmental inquiry into the mishap.
