Noida: Just a few days after PVVNL managing director (MD) Isha Duhan instructed officials to take steps to improve the power supply, residents of sectors 51, 36, 71, 19, and Arun Vihar reported 3-to-6-hour outages due to technical issues.
"On Saturday, the federation of Noida resident welfare associations (FONRWA) met with MD Duhan regarding the poor power situation in the city.
We were assured of improvements in power service. Yet, just 48 hours later, most sectors faced power cuts of over 5 hours," said Kavita Jamil, vice chairperson of the Arun Vihar RWA, to TOI.
On Monday, Sector 37 in Arun Vihar experienced a 5-hour outage after a 33 kV line at the Sector 38 substation broke down.
Jamil alleged that despite the area's sub-divisional officer (SDO) Sushil Kumar saying that the power supply would resume in 35 minutes, there was no resolution for 5 hours.
SDO Kumar said, "Repair work on the 33 kV line at the Sector 38 substation was being carried out. Electricity will soon be restored."
In Sector 51, a transformer caught fire on Monday, leading to a four-hour power cut, followed by a 3-hour shutdown on Tuesday to replace the worn-out wire of the LT line at the sector's transformer.
"The transformer near F-62 in the sector caught fire on Monday. A team from the power department, including the area's junior engineer, arrived at the spot to inspect it. They informed us that procuring and installing a new transformer would take time. They provided us with a temporary supply through alternative means," said RWA general secretary of Sector 51 Sanjeev Kumar.
"Frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuations are common in our sector. After a written complaint was submitted to the power department, linemen began repairing and installing new wires on Tuesday. We did not receive any prior information about when power would be shut down for repairing local faults," said Sunil Wadhwa, RWA president of Sector 71.
Anita Singh, RWA president of Sector 36, shared a similar complaint. "On Monday, the outage lasted about 6 hours, while on Tuesday, the power tripped several times throughout the day," said Singh.
Similar complaints were made by residents in other sectors such as 19, 12, and 30.
Noida power department chief engineer Harish Bansal said that repairs and maintenance works are underway in the city. "We aim to address the issues raised by residents with quality work," said Bansal.
