Rane booked for hurting religious sentiments
Nashik: The Tofkhana police have registered a case against BJP MLA Nitesh Rane for hurting religious sentiments during his rally in Ahmednagar on Sunday.
The FIR has been registered for offences punishable under sections 302 (intentionally uttering words to deliberately wound religious sentiments of another person) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a 55-year-old social worker, who stated that Rane, while addressing a rally in Ahmednagar, used bad language against people of a specific community. The BJP functionary also threatened the people with dire consequences if they spoke anything against Ramgiri Maharaj.
The complainant said the language used by the MLA has hurt the religious sentiments of many people of that community.
On Sunday night, some members of the minority community had gone to the Tofkhana police station to express their resentment against Rane.
Inspector Anand Kokre said, "The situation is peaceful in the city and we have appealed to the people to maintain peace."
