A statement of demands was given to district collector Amol Yedge by the protestors’ delegation.
MP Shahu Chhatrapati said, “Govt should not see the end of the farmers. No one has demanded this highway. The process of land acquisition should not have gone ahead by giving verbal adjournment and keeping the farmers in the dark. Written orders of cancellation should be issued by govt.”
MLA Ruturaj Patil said, “While govt has agreed to conduct discussions with the farmers and the opposition party within fifteen days, but contradictorily it has sent a proposal to the environment department for their approval.” Coordinator of Shaktipeeth Highway Virodhi Kruti Samiti, Girish Phonde, said, "Ladki Bahin, Ladki Bahu and other schemes were introduced, but didn't govt love farmers? When would they think of their Ladka Shetkari? If this highway, which introduced for the benefit of contractors, was not cancelled, we would restructure the govt in the upcoming assembly elections."
On Sunday, members of the Shaktipeeth Highway Virodhi Kruti Samiti met deputy CM Ajit Pawar in Kolhapur and demanded the cancellation of the highway, which may need acquisition of nearly 27,000 acres of fertile land.
