All potholes will be filled by month-end: KMC administrator
Kolhapur: KMC administrator K Manjulekshmi, in a meeting with MLC Satej Patil, MLAs Ruturaj Patil and Jayashri Jadhav on Thursday evening, vowed to fill the potholes plaguing the city roads by Aug 30. The civic chief also assured the meeting attendees of completing the Kalammawadi direct pipeline scheme works by Oct-end.
Issues like wastewater management and garbage collection were also discussed in the meeting held at the KMC’s election office at Sasane ground in Kolhapur city.

“Roads in the city are dotted with potholes. Garbage collection is not up to the mark too, exposing citizens to health risks. Citizens are furious as drinking water is not available at times. Streetlights are non-functional. KMC should take appropriate measures regarding potholes, the Kalammawadi direct pipeline scheme, electricity system, sewage and garbage issues should be resolved at the earliest,” Satej Patil said, while addressing the meeting.
KMC water supply engineer Harshjit Ghatge said, “The works on ensuring drinking water supply to Kolhapur city via the Kalammawadi direct pipeline scheme is currently going on smoothly. Twelve tanks are nearing completion. By Oct-end, the supply will start through the Kalammawadi direct pipeline scheme at full capacity. As the water will come through a siphon system, the electricity bill will come down by Rs 80 to 90 lakh every month.”

The issue of Pune's pothole-filled roads finally saw action as MP and MoS for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol met with local authorities and representatives. Temporary fixes with cement have been planned, to be carried out repeatedly until the monsoon ends. Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole indicated that concrete roads would be considered post-monsoon, prioritizing major roads and traffic junctions first.
