SUV rams stationary scooter, drags it to 15 km; three booked

Kanpur: In Firozabad district, a scooter rider narrowly escaped a accident when a speeding SUV rammed into his stationary scooter while he was buying vegetables on service road leading to Kanpur-Agra National Highway. A case has been lodged against three persons in this connection.
The SUV dragged the scooter for approximately 15 kilometres along the highway before it got finally detached from the vehicle.The incident came to light after a video of the event went viral on social media, prompting the police to take action.
The SUV was occupied by three intoxicated men at the time of the incident, said the police. The viral video footage showed the high-speed SUV dragging the two-wheeler underneath its chassis along the highway. Even after the scooter got entangled in the SUV’s bonnet, the SUV driver continued to drive. The front wheels of the car caught fire due to the prolonged dragging as the SUV driver continued to drive for several more kilometres with the scooter entangled. The pursuit of the SUV involved about 50 bike riders and police officers from three different police stations.
Officer-in-charge of the Sirsaganj police station Vaibhav Singh confirmed that the medical examinations of the three occupants of the SUV revealed that they had all consumed alcohol. “A case has been booked for rash negligent driving and endangering life of others againt the three men. Further investigations into the matter are currently underway,” said the official. “The SUV borne occupants have been identified as Rahul, resident of Semra village in Firozabad district, Veerpal Singh and Kaushalendra, residents of Nagla Sita village,” he said.
