JODHPUR: Police detained a minor from
UP for threatening a Jodhpur-based jeweller by posing as an aide of gangster
Lawrence Bishnoi. The minor used an app to make the call appear as an international one.
After downloading the app and accessing a foreign number, he searched for jewellers of Jodhpur on social media with a view to extort money by threatening them in Bishnoi's name.
SHO (Sadar Bazaar) Kailash Pareek said that he chose Sudarshan Jewellers and called up the owner identified as Om Prakash Soni. "We roped in our cyber team and used our technical expertise to identify the caller. Finally, our investigation led us to Jhansi, UP. We sent a team and traced the caller to Gurusarai," said Pareek.
The accused minor was brought to Jodhpur on Saturday and is being interrogated after he was detained. Pareek said that the accused belongs to Jodhpur's Dangiawas and had been working in a Jhansi sweet shop for the past one year.
He had also posted pictures of Lawrence Bishnoi and his henchmen like Goldy Brar on his social media account and used the name of Nikky Barad to call the victim.
The minor threatened the jeweller to part with Rs. 5 lakh or be ready for an incident like that in Jaipur, hinting at the murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.
