JAMSHEDPUR: The three districts of the Kolhan division soaked in religious fervour, with devotees thronging the Shiva temples to offer prayers and seek blessings of the lord on Mahashivratri on Saturday.
From early hours, faithful started coming to the temples to perform rituals and as the day progressed, the crowd swelled.
The prominent Shiva temples that attracted large gathering of the devotees are Andhra Bhakt Shree Ram Mandiram in Bistupur, Bhuvaneswari temple in Telco, Rankini temple in Kadma, Maa Sheetla temple in Sakchi, Chitreswardham temple in Baharagora, Dalma shiv temple in Dalma sanctuary, Siddheswar temple in Jaduguda, and, Mahadevsal temple in Goilkera, West Singhbhum, among other temples.

The Domuhani banks witnessed a first of its kind event, wherein naga sadhus took a dip in the confluence earlier in the day. Mahaarati was performed by 11 seers, who arrived from Banaras. Being organised by state health minister Banna Gupta, the celebration witnessed several events, including live performance of bhajan by popular Bhojpuri singer Bharat Sharma Vyas.
“It was a delightful experience to take part in the Mahashivratri celebrations on the banks of Domuhani. The illumination on the Marine Drive stretch made the place look extremely beautiful," said Ganesh Mahato (36), a local resident.
Meanwhile, the police was on the alert mode to ensure the celebrations passes off smoothly.
