Guwahati: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Saturday launched three new water sprinkler vehicles to check dust pollution. In addition, two buses were also inaugurated for the convenience of daily commute of its sanitation workers, especially the women, for boosting their morale and productivity.
Each of the water sprinkler vehicles has a capacity of 6,000 litres and can sprinkle water on up to 10 km city roads at one go, a GMC official said.
The addition of the three vehicles has increased the total number of water sprinklers to six, intensifying GMC’s efforts to control dust on city roads.
“The GMC already has three water sprinklers under the National Clean Air Programme. This addition will further enhance our effort towards controlling dust pollution in the city. The vehicles will sprinkle water in every part of the city as per requirement, especially in areas where construction works are underway,” GMC mayor Mrigen Sarania said.
The corporation, which has over 1,200 sanitation workers, plans to buy more buses to benefit workers through the initiative, the mayor said.
With the new additions, GMC aims to make Guwahati a cleaner and greener city.
