They raised slogans and expressed their discontent with the current govt’s approach towards tackling the severe impact of flooding and erosion.
Aasu’s Dibrugarh unit president Tanuj Haloi said, “The people of Assam have been suffering for far too long due to floods and erosion. It is high time the govt takes concrete action to address this issue and provide relief to the affected population. Declaring floods and erosion crisis a national disaster will ensure adequate resources and attention are directed towards finding a sustainable solution. We need a permanent solution, not temporary fixes.”
Aasu’s Dibrugarh unit general secretary Pappu Saikia echoed Haloi’s sentiments adding, “We cannot continue to face the same problem every year without any concrete measures being taken to prevent it. It’s not just about the land, it’s about the lives that are disrupted every year. The floods and erosion have devastated many lives and livelihoods, and it is imperative that the govt steps in to declare this as a national disaster.”
The protesters also submitted a memorandum to water resources minister Pijush Hazarika, outlining their demands and urging immediate action. The memorandum highlighted the need for a permanent solution to the problem.
