Yogi Adityanath through an abusive post on X after a power cut at his Vasundhara house amid the heatwave. He was granted bail on Thursday.
Himanshu Kaushik of Sector 13 claimed he called the 1912 helpline several times to report power cuts, but no one answered them, prompting him to take to social media.
Swatantra Singh, the Indirapuram ACP, said Himanshu made a post from his X handle — @kaushikh1993 — on Wednesday, saying there was no power in his area for the past one hour and calls to the helpline were not answered.
“He tagged the CM’s handle along with those of the electricity departments in his post. In the same post, he made some abusive remarks against the PM and CM,” Singh said.
According to police, Kaushik is a lawyer practising at Patiala House Courts. “He told us he was angry with recurrent power cuts in the area and had made the post to vent out his anger. We are collecting more information about his antecedents,” Singh said.
An FIR was registered against Kaushik at Indirapuram police station under sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 295 (injuring or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) of the IPC.
The ACP said Kaushik made several abusive posts over lack of amenities in the past, but most of them targeted govt officials.
