Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Development Authority is working on a plan to make a medical city, sports city and education hub in the city. A proposal in the works is likely to be tabled at the next GDA board meeting scheduled in the second week of July.
“The project is in a nascent phase, but a plan is definitely afoot. A private firm, which has expertise in making such plans and has been hired by the Lucknow Development Authority, has been identified,” said Atul Vats, GDA vice chairperson.
Vats did not specify where these hubs will be developed.
However, sources in the GDA said about 200 to 400 hectares of land, preferably along the Hindon Elevated Road, Eastern Peripheral Road, and Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, is currently being scouted for the project.
According to officials, Ghaziabad’s proximity to the national capital and the fact that the land selected for the site is close to the Delhi Meerut Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Road, and Delhi-Howrah rail line has made it ideal for developing the city into a logistic hub of the NCR. The GDA will also incorporate these projects into its Master Plan 2031.
In 2023, the state govt had mooted a plan for creating a city logistic hub in seven districts, including Ghaziabad. A total of 240 hectares of land had been identified in Kushaliya village and another 53.9 hectares in Bhojpur, both along the DME, had been selected for it. The GDA had instructed the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), hired by them, to prepare a plan for the logistic hub in compliance with the state govt’s direction.
