Coimbatore: A teacher of a government school in Mettupalayam was arrested on Wednesday for sexually abusing girl students. Police have also summoned the school headmistress and three teachers for attempting to hush up the incident which took place two months ago. The crime came to light when members of the district child protection unit visited the school for an awareness programme on sexual abuse.
According to police, the accused, S Natarajan, a secondary grade teacher of a govt school at Alankombu in Sirumugai near Mettupalayam, had sexually abused nine girl students.
The girls complained about Natarajan to the class teacher two months back. The school headmistress Jamuna was also informed about the sexual harassment by the teacher. The headmistress also conducted an inquiry. However, neither was any action taken against Natarajan nor was the matter reported to police.
