Passersby assisted the injured and alerted authorities. The bus driver, who is currently receiving medical treatment, is yet to provide a statement. The Koyambedu traffic investigation wing police have registered a case, and an inquiry is on.
Dinesh's body was sent for postmortem at a government hospital. The injured passengers were treated for their injuries. This accident highlights safety concerns on the 32km Chennai Bypass Road that connects Tambaram and Puzhal via Porur. The road is Chennai second most dangerous road, with more than 140 accidents annually.
The bypass road has numerous damaged medians, allowing local vehicles, including trucks and minivans, to make illegal U-turns for shortcuts. These vehicles frequently park along the toll road to load and unload goods, often near blind spots and sharp curves, posing risk to road users.
