Bhubaneswar: The state crime branch, probing the alleged custodial torture at Bharatpur police station on Sept 15, moved a court here on Tuesday requesting permission to conduct a lie detector test on the Army officer’s fiancée and some police personnel, who have been accused of subjecting her to sexual misconduct.
A source in the crime branch said a formal proposal has been submitted in the court after securing written consent from the woman to undergo the polygraph test to ascertain the truth.
“We are waiting for the court’s approval. Once we receive the permission, polygraph test will be conducted at the state forensic science laboratory here,” the crime branch source told TOI.
As per the agency, they are yet to find substantial evidence to support the 32-year-old woman restaurateur’s claim of sexual harassment in police custody. Similarly, no evidence has been found to support the police’s allegation of the woman attacking staff at Bharatpur police station. Absence of CCTV cameras in the station and lack of independent witnesses seem to be posing difficulty in finding the truth.
