Education department officer arrested for accepting bribe
Bhopal: Lokayukta police arrested an assistant grade-3 officer of the education department in Bhopal for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 on Friday.
The accused, Vishwaraj Singh Bais, was caught red-handed at the directorate of public instruction in Gautam Nagar.
Bais had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 80,000 from one Vikram Singh Pachwaria, a teacher at govt high school on Parwalia Road in Bhopal, threatening to transfer him to an undesirable location.
The bribe was to be paid in instalments, with the first instalment of Rs 25,000 being handed over on Friday.
Following a complaint by Pachwaria, the Lokayukta police verified the claims and set up a trap. Bais was caught accepting the bribe.
A case has been registered against him under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The operation was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Bajpai, along with inspector GS Merscole and other officers.
