Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Vaijapur police in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Saturday added the charge of ‘promoting enmity’ between groups (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’s Section 353 (2)) in the FIR registered against Ramgiri Maharaj, the head of a religious organisation in Nashik, for his alleged anti-Islamic remarks.
On Friday, after complaints from various organisations in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, who took out a morcha at the police station, the FIR was registered against Ramgiri Maharaj under section 302 of the BNS for uttering words with deliberate intent to hurt the religious sentiments ofthe people.
“The contents of these complaints also attract section 353 (2) of BNS and so it has been added,” inspector Shyamsundar Kauthale of Vaijapur police station told TOI.
Additional superintendent of police (Rural) Sunil Lanjewar told TOI that all the complaints received against Ramgiri Maharaj from across the state are being compiled and forwarded to the state intelligence department for further action.
The police have also restored normalcy in the city on Saturday and have continued with heavy bandobast in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar as well as the neighbouring districts.
