Agra: A special Pocso court has sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years in jail for abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl in 2019. The incident happened in a village in Muzaffarnagar. Judge Manjula Bhalotia also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
District government counsel (DGC) Rajeev Sharma said, “The prosecution presented six witnesses, and the court sentence came on Tuesday.
The convict is a resident of Basa Tikri area in Baghpat.”
The girl went missing on May 3, 2019, under suspicious circumstances. A case was registered under relevant sections against the accused on May 8, 2019, for kidnapping and raping the minor.
According to DGC Sharma, the girl’s location was traced to Maharashtra two weeks after she had gone missing, and police brought her back to her family.
The chargesheet was submitted in court two months after the incident. The accused was arrested but he managed to secure bail later.
Sharma said, “The victim’s father reported that the accused used to often visit their house before he lured the girl away.”
