Oppn demands removal of Tripura tribal welfare minister for ‘corruption’
Agartala: The opposition Congress and CPM in Tripura on Saturday demanded the removal of tribal welfare minister, Bikash Debbarma, from the cabinet over corruption charges and sought an inquiry against him for alleged possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Neither the accused nor the CM responded to the allegations in the assembly.

BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, too, refrained from commenting on the issue.
Taking part in a discussion on the progress of World Bank-aided Rs 1400 crore Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) on Friday, Congress legislator Sudip Roybarman said though it was sanctioned for multi-sectoral development of the tribal community, it turned into an opportunity for looting funds. The project, which was conceptualised for the development of tribal lands, has become a source of income for several firms and experts from different parts of the state, he said.
