JAMMU: At least two-three suspected Pakistani terrorists were cornered in a security counteroffensive that led to a gunfight in the mountainside forests of Chatroo in Kishtwar district of Jammu division Saturday evening.
Officials said no casualties have been reported so far. “Terrorists fired at security forces, leading to an exchange. At least two-three terrorists are suspected to be trapped at the site.
Additional troops have been deployed to strengthen the cordon,” an official said.
On Sept 13, two soldiers were killed and as many wounded in a similar gunfight in the Chatroo belt connecting Kishtwar with south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on either side of the Pir Panjal range. Between May 4 and Sept 13, J&K recorded 21 security force fatalities — 17 in Jammu zone and four in Kashmir valley.
Security has been intensified in Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua, and Udhampur districts, particularly in the upper reaches, following the recent surge in terrorist activities. Security measures are also tight due to the ongoing assembly elections in J&K.
