Google has begun rolling out significant upgrades to the video editing capabilities in its Google Photos app, introducing AI-powered tools and a redesigned interface to simplify the editing process for users.
The update, which started rolling out now, brings several key improvements to the forefront of the video editing experience on Android devices. Users will now find essential editing tools prominently displayed, including an enhanced trim tool for precise cutting, a one-tap auto-enhance button for colour improvement and video stabilisation, and a new speed adjustment feature for creating slow-motion or fast-paced effects.
In addition to these manual controls, Google is introducing AI-powered video presets for both Android and iOS users.
These presets aim to streamline the editing process by automatically applying a range of enhancements, including trimming, lighting adjustments, speed control, and dynamic effects like motion tracking and zooming.
The redesign places these tools in a more accessible layout, moving away from the previous compact design with small, unlabeled buttons. Google's stated goal is to make it "easier than ever to edit your favourite videos into stunning clips to share."
This update follows recent changes to Google Photos, including a revamp of the Collections tab and improvements to the app's search functionality. The new features are expected to roll out gradually to users over the coming days. Google has not specified an exact timeline for full availability across all devices.
