NTA has released the provisional answer keys for the UGC NET exams held from August 27 to September 4, 2024, on the official website.

General, Unreserved, and General-EWS candidates who had obtained at least 55% marks in their Master’s Degree or equivalent examinations from UGC-recognized universities were eligible for the test. This included fields such as Humanities, Social Sciences, Computer Science, and Electronic Science. Candidates from Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer), Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Persons with Disabilities, and Third Gender categories were eligible if they secured at least 50% marks. NTA has already released the UGC NET 2024 June answer key for exams held on August 21, 22, and 23 along with the recorded responses of the candidates.

Candidates from the Third gender category were eligible for the same fee, age, and eligibility criteria relaxations as those available to SC/ST/PwD categories for the NET (JRF and Assistant Professor) exam. The subject-wise qualifying cut-offs for Third gender candidates were set at the lowest among the cut-offs for SC, ST, PwD, OBC-NCL, and General EWS categories in the corresponding subjects. This ensures equitable opportunities and support for Third gender candidates in the examination process.

Candidates who were pursuing their Master’s degree or had appeared for their final year examination with results pending were eligible to apply for the test. The UGC NET results will be announced in percentile, along with the candidate’s actual marks. This information will be used for Ph.D. admissions, ensuring that the results reflect both the candidate’s percentile rank and the specific marks achieved.

The UGC NET marks for candidates in Category-2 and Category-3 will be valid for one year from the date of the result declaration. This validity period allows candidates to use their NET scores for Ph.D. admissions within this timeframe.

For candidates qualifying under Category-2 and Category-3, Ph.D. admission will be determined by a combination of UGC NET marks and interview/viva voce performance. The NET marks will account for 70% of the total weightage, while the remaining 30% will be based on the interview or viva voce conducted by the respective University or Higher Education Institution (HEI).

Candidates qualifying under UGC NET Category-2 and Category-3 can use their UGC NET scores as an entrance test for Ph.D. admission. This allows them to bypass other university-specific entrance exams, streamlining the admission process into doctoral programs at various universities and higher education institutions (HEIs).

JRF-qualified candidates will be admitted to the Ph.D. program through an interview, in line with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022. This process ensures that candidates meet the necessary academic and research standards for doctoral studies.

Eligibility will be assessed as follows:

• Category-1: Qualified for JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor, including Ph.D. admission.
• Category-2: Qualified for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.
• Category-3: Qualified for admission to Ph.D. only.

Candidates qualifying under the 'admission to Ph.D. only' category are eligible solely for Ph.D. program admission. They are not considered for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) award or for appointment as Assistant Professors. This category is specific to pursuing doctoral studies without additional teaching or fellowship opportunities.

Candidates qualifying under the 'appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.' category are eligible for roles as Assistant Professors and for Ph.D. admissions. However, they are not eligible for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) award. This qualification focuses on academic and research positions without JRF consideration.
