GHAZIABAD: Ghaziabad police have arrested an applicant at the Government Inter College in Nandgram for alleged fraud in the UP Police recruitment exam. The investigation was initiated after a biometric alert from Lucknow, which revealed that the applicant, identified as Rishi Ranjan from Banka, Bihar, used fake documents.
Rajesh Kumar, DCP of City, stated, "During the second shift of the exam, which was held from 3pm to 5pm, information was received via phone from the Lucknow Control Room regarding candidate Varun Thakur (son of Ravindra, village Barotha, police station Shambhuganj, Baka, Bihar, pin code 813207), roll number 2394434, stating that his data did not match around 3.38pm."

Consequently, the candidate was allowed to participate in the examination based on the declaration form. In this context, there was a conversation with senior police officers, who instructed an inquiry after the examination. Following the exam, the candidate was interrogated in the presence of the centre in-charge (police) Pradeep Kumar, and the candidate's mobile phone was checked. It was found that the mobile contained two Aadhaar cards: one for Rishi Ranjan with a birth date of 27.01.1996, and another for Varun Thakur with a birth date of 04.03.2004, both having the same Aadhaar number 708191740001. Additionally, from the candidate's phone, a record from the Bihar School Examination Board, Patna, for the Secondary School Examination 2021 with roll number 2100620 showed the birth date as 04.03.2004, whereas the CBSE Board Secondary Certificate Examination 2012 (roll number 8126443) showed the birth date as 27.01.1996."
According to the complaint filed by Centre Manager/Principal Jai Singh Yadav, Rishi Ranjan attempted to fraudulently pass high school twice by creating forged documents and falsely representing his age on the Aadhaar card and admit card. Despite being ineligible, he tried to participate in the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Exam 2023 and was caught during the exam check.
“On the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been lodged in Nandgram police station against the accused under the sections of 318 (4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 336 (3) (forgery for purpose of cheating), 340 (2) (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of BNS and relevant sections of the Examination Act 1982,” he said.
